King of the Dead
The The King of the Dead was a Man, chief of the Men of the Mountains at the time of the founding of Gondor. On behalf of his people, he swore allegiance to Isildur at Erech, but broke the Oath when called to fight with the army of the Last Alliance. For this, he and his people were doomed to dwell in the Ered Nimrais until they repaid their debt, which they did during the War of the Ring.
Although he was a normal Man, he was known as the King of the Mountains.
