Middle Earth Info on Doom of Men:

Doom of Men
The Doom of Men was the later name for the ban set on Men by Eru in the beginning, which was that all Men must age and die. The Doom of Men was originally conceived as a great blessing, and was therefore called the Gift of Men, but later Men, especially the Númenoreans, considered mortality a curse.
