February 6, 1998 Julian Rocks

Today Sid and I took it easy until 3:00pm when we went scuba diving. We took about a 20min. boat ride out to Julian Rocks, a popular dive site. This was our first open water dive since our training course and everything went well. We dove down to about 18 meters and saw some great stuff. The first thing I saw when I got to the bottom was a couple small moray eels sticking their heads out of a rock. The dive site is protected so the sea life is used to the people and aren't afraid and will swim right up to you. We also saw a bunch of Wobbegong(shark-like fish, same size), huge sea turtle - sleeping, puffer fish, sea urchins - huge, lots of star fish, and many schools of big fish. It was a great experience overall, I wish I had some pictures to show you, but my camera wouldn't survive the water :) Later that evening our hostel had a cookout with free wine! So of course we indulged ourselves and eventually finished off the wine, so we had to convince Sid to break open the bottles he bought a few days back at the winery. We were having a great time and eventually became loud and obnoxious, so we left and headed for, where else, the beach! There was a great breeze and a there was a bar nearby that we could hear a band playing from. I wish I had my camera with me, because I would have some great photos of some very drunk people. We all started to fall asleep on the beach, so I convinced everyone to wake up and head back. We all made it home safely and went to bed.
